On 13 November 2008 in Brussels, Dr. Erwin Kern was designated as the new President of the Council of European Producers of Materials for Construction (CEPMC). Dr. Kern is member of the Board of BBS (Bundesverbandes Baustoffe – Steine und Erden e.V.), the German Member of CEPMC, and of the Executive Board of ERMCO, the European Ready Mixed Concrete Association, one of the 35 Associate Members of CEPMC.

“The most important topics - beside the European Construction Products Directive which is currently discussed at the levels of the European Council and Parliament - are energy and resources efficiency, sustainable construction and raw material safety”, said Dr Kern. A special importance must be given to the building materials industry in the European Union in order to better balance economic and environmental requirements. “Considering the economic and financial crisis, each initiative, also at the level of the EU, has to avoid to put in danger the competitive ability of our industry”, insisted Dr Kern.

Dr. Erwin Kern is since 1991 member of the Executive Board and since 2007 CEO of Kies und Beton AG Baden-Baden, as well as president of the Bundesverband der Deutschen Transportbetonindustrie e.V. (BTB - German ready mixed concrete Association). BTB is member of BBS.
